We bought ours in 2016 and we have the smallest unit with the soap stone. And we love it. Slight learning curve with size of fire wood, small fire box. And learning to cook with it took us a little while to adjust to. You don't need a huge fire in the fire box to cook, and we put the drip pan on the top shelf to act as a heat shield to reflect the heat so the top of the food doesn't over cook.
Controlling the fire in the fire box is more important than redirecting the flu around the stove.

Mr. Mytruthis, did you use the lever in the back to draw up the smoke before the stove gets hot? Could this be the problem why the smoke blows out?

My wife and I are looking into the Vermont Bun Baker XL. Does anyone use the large size? I see that many are very happy with the model you do have. We live in Washington state and would love to look at one before we buy, so we are looking for anyone who would be willing to let us check out their Bun Baker. We would make it worth your while.

Evening Jane,

Thanks for the great info on the bun baker and the website in general. I'm about to return to Alaska to live out my many days and will be taking my disabled autistic adult son and my 13 year old daughter. I think we can handle things off the grid with a good woodstove and my son is wanting a small cabin for his "own space" and I think the Vermont Bunbaker will be a good idea for his little place.

Not sure how big the house will be when we get done and what the construction will be, either log or log sided with some great insulation, or "??? whatever we find for a good deal that's for sale.." This should be an adventure. I really appreciate the good info on this site and the ability to have a community that can answer questions and work together for all.

Blessings!!
